Currently in its start-up phase, DPN [Digital Preservation Network] is building a digital preservation backbone that connects five existing (or soon to exist, in the case of APTrust) preservation-oriented repositories: the Academic Preservation Trust (APTrust), Chronopolis, HathiTrust, Stanford Digital Repository (SDR), and the University of Texas Digital Repository (UTDR). Collectively, these five are known as the DPN nodes.
Since the mid-1990s, libraries and archives have been digitizing newspapers for preservation and access. The standards used for this work have evolved significantly during this time. Modern collections employ digitization techniques, metadata extraction and standards, and file formats that are very different compared to early collections. Increasingly, libraries and archives also include born-digital material.

On a crisp, clear January day in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Lucinda Marker and her husband, John Tull, stepped inside an Airstream trailer that StoryCorps converted into a mobile recording studio. Marker and Tull were there to interview each other for an audio memento, to reminisce and talk about significant moments in their shared lives, especially about the time they were gravely ill with the bubonic plague during a vacation in New York City.
This Digital Preservation Toolkit provides accessible template, frameworks, decision trees and documents that are designed to help museums assess their digital preservation needs, to produce policy and procedures around digital preservation, and to develop, select and implement an action plan. Resources are presented in chronological order of need for the development of a digital preservation strategy.
Metadata and Digital Assets, Inextricably Linked
Universidade do Minho - Several institutions are currently running long-term digital repositories that have been in operation for several years now. Some of these systems are approaching the end of their life spans and will soon be replaced by the next-generation of long-term digital repository systems. This will unavoidably imply the migration of millions of files, metadata records and terabytes of data from the legacy repository to the newly adopted one. Because of the large scale of this operation, this procedure needs careful planning, validation and support.
Library For All has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund an ebook platform that would enable the distribution of ebooks in the developing world. The organization is seeking $100,000 in pledges to roll out a pilot program at the Respire School in Gressier, Haiti this fall.

CollectiveAccess is a highly configurable cataloguing tool and web-based application for museums, archives and digital collections. Available free of charge under the GPL open-source license, it requires little to no custom programming to support a variety of metadata standards, external data sources and repositories, as well as most popular media formats. In addition to multilingual cataloguing facilities, it allows publication of this data in the languages of your choice.
